MAREA Appoints New CEO

KUALA LUMPUR, 9 MARCH, 2023 – The Malaysian Recycling Alliance (MAREA) recently announced the appointment of Mr Roberto Benetello as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) effective 6 March 2023, following the retirement of former General Manager, Pauline Goh.

Prior to joining MAREA, Roberto was the Executive Director of the Business Council for Sustainable Development (BCSD) Malaysia, a Global Network partner of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). 

Over 25 years of experience in business management, coupled with his recent focus on corporate sustainability, have enabled him to play a pivotal role in assisting businesses to accelerate the transition to a sustainable world by offering tools, methodologies, training and capacity-building to support the integration of sustainability into corporate strategy and operations.

Over the course of his career, Roberto has held various senior general management positions in the private sector, working for Fortune 500 companies and start-ups across the world in countries such as Italy, the United Kingdom, Spain, and Malaysia. With his vast experience, Roberto brings in-depth knowledge in several areas, including corporate sustainability, international relations and business development, amongst others.

MAREA is a voluntary non-profit organisation (NGO) established by a voluntary industry-led Extended Producer Responsibility group to boost the recycling value chain and improve the collection and recycling of post-consumer packaging in Malaysia to address concerns about plastic waste and other environmental issues.
